There is a saying in Korea.
One time of experience is better than listening about it over hundred times.
The meaning is simple. One's experience in the field count much more than what one can learn and experience from books and on the Internet. Technology has well advanced today. More books are accessible. More stresses on education. And most importantly, the wide access of world wide Internet has united the thousand million people into one global family. But family? Is this really the correct word to describe our world today? It is defiantly true that the wide Internet and technology has brought more people closer together, but are we truly understanding each other. What makes us all the same human being, but different at the same time. It is an easy question to answer and yet a hard one. As a young student myself, I look into the world today with this quetion. And that is where I came back to this old saying that I often heard.
One time of experience is better than listening about it over hundred times.
If there is a burning question, why not take the chance to discover the answer? As for me, there was one way that I could satisfy my desire. Step into these real worlds abroad: TRAVEL. And so that is what I did.
And I think you know the answer already. Yes, I am nodding my head along with my old Korean ancestors. One time seeing with my own eyes has taught me so much more than what I could have learned from ten or twenty dusty books in the Mugar Library.
